Bastard!! Destructive God of Darkness is a popular manga by Kazushi Hagiwara, featuring Wizards, knights, ninjas and overly big scantly clad boobs. Quite popular in Japan, it has a quite wide following in Europe and in the US as well, partly because of the hundreds Heavy Metal references that the authord scattered trough the story, it's mature themes and the dark humor it featured. If you never heard about it, you might want to start from it's wikipedia page.
Back in 2005 came an announcement about the making of a MMORPG based on it's quite deep and developed fantasy setting (a post-apocaliptic version of Earth, destroyed by a massive war, whose effect still persist in the form of mutated monsters and gods of destruction), but the game is still way under the radar of western gamers. Now that the Tokyo Game Show has begun, most eyes are turned towards the big console productions, so the announcement by Tecmo of the release of Bastard!! Online for 2009 came quite as a surprise.
The few pictures released show a still rough graphics engine and are quite generic, showing, between some players characters, a few popular characters of the manga, bound to appear as NPCs (you can see the dark elf Ashes Nei in all her scantly clad glory), but the boobage that strongly characterizes the original manga is already quite visible.
One of the few things announced about the gameplay, is the mix between sword fighting and magic, that will produce the thypical massively over-the-top effects seen in the manga and in it's anime adaptation.
Little else is known, at the moment, about the game itself, nor if it'll be published in the west (but since it's Tecmo the chances are quite high), hopefully it'll mantain it's original mature themes and flavor. In any case, being a big fan of the manga, you can be sure I'll blog about it as soon as any news appear.
