I Just finished playing the "free" day for my realm in Land of the Dead (it's 7.22 AM and I'll have to go to work in 1 hour, so I guess you can understand already how much I liked it if it kept me up til now)
I managed to experience all the public quests and Lairs (getting a very, very nice shield in the process, yay), and I have to say I had a blast. It's hand down one of the most beautifully designed areas i've ever seen in a MMO. The graphics are stunning, pushing quite nicely the limits of the engine.
The nicest thing, though, is that I didn't encounter any real bug, all the content is really polished and flows without problems.
The encounters themselves, on top of all the goodness, are very fun, topped by quite challenging mechanics that bring a lot of variety to the gameplay.
Unfortunately the tomb of the Vulture Lord was still closed. Hopefully I'll manage to get in there tomorrow (if we get control of the place). If the quality is similar to the necropolis, then we're in for a lot of fun.
Mythic really delivered, in the face the usual haters.

your so full of shit man - you ass kiss this game because you make a living off games - you didnt even play War for a long period of time so your full of shit comments about a stable population are a joke. Get over yourself you pompous nerd - I can fucken believe how you just keep blowing hot air through your ass about this crappy game - the game is dead man - do you even read the server forums? So what if a few hundred people play in t4 on 4 servers - wippy shit. You fucken stupid moron- this game is over, dead and done. Lotd is a complete fuck up - you dont play the game enough or see the reality of how this PvP game is in fact NOT because it needs people to be PvP in all tiers and all the time and it cant have that. And even if it did the fucken servers cant even support the few hundred people playing on the busiest servers - how fucken dumb are you?
ReplyDeleteOh really? It's unfortunate that I played warhammer without breaks longer than a couple weeks since day one of closed beta (Make a living off games? This is kind of a weird statement...) in August 2007. That's definitely "not a long time" I guess. Just lol.
ReplyDeleteI published this comment, despite it probably deserved to be moderated, because it's a clear example of the intelligence level of the average warhammer-hater.
If the ones that hate it are at this honestly quite sizeable level of brain-damage, then It's a clear example of how goos the game is.
I'm sorry if the fact that Warhammer is still alive and well and the quality of the new expansion despite your hating makes you rage and foam at the mouth this much. But you know, this is life. You'll have more luck with the next game you decide to troll. Maybe.
You did not play Warhammer for 2 months as you claim in your own blog. During this time the population of the game has seriusly dropped to the point of all the smaller servers asking for mergers and transfers.
ReplyDeleteThe addition of Lotd has now ruined the concept of War because instead of going for the King in the main cit after capturing the zones and forts - you can now go to Lotd. This leaves the city undefended.
This means the losing side can go after the main city and as such rewards the losers with the option to do so.
Never before on servers since the inception of War have losing factions gotten to the King but now they can. Why? It is not skill - it is the empty undefended city that exists because the winners are PvEing in Lotd.
Also you fail to mention that on the free day for the winners of the live event, ther servers were closed to players.
You also do not talk EVER about how nothing is happening many hours of the day in War due to its lack of things to do when nobody is around AND that city sieges close Tier 4 RvR(PvP) for 15 - 18 hours.
Are you really that fucken stupid? Seriously, nobody cares what you write or think in the forums - which I see you do not partake in at all anymore or what you say on the Warhammer Alliance page - you are not a dedicated player of this game - you are just a person who makes his living off gaming.
Hi a guy on Warhammer Alliance told me to check out your site. Gotta say bud you really don't have a clue about Lotd regarding how it screws up the whole object of the game. Sorry to say but it is overly easy to wipe all the PQ's, requires no skill, allows the other faction to raid your city and try and kill your king - while your faction is in Lotd.
ReplyDeleteThe population is way down over the past 2 and half months and you were not playing. I think if you are going to try and get people to repect what you say about games you should be truthful and do more research. Did you even mention that winning acces to Lotd was based on who has the higher population? Did you mention that the free day was ruined due to maintenance? Seriously, wake up, be an honest reporter. Maybe people will appreciate your comment more. In the War forums you have the habit of always trying to seem correct and this is more important to you than being factual.
Ahah. You might want to learn to read, my little trolls. I didn't BLOG for two months, because, you know, I was too busy doing other things, playing warhammer online between the others.
ReplyDeleteThe concept of war has been ruined? How? because people stay in land of the dead a lot now that it's new (it's called novelty, you know? it's obvious that people are attracted by it for a while. This not to mention that the fact that people spend a lot of time there is a clear proof of the quality of the new content)?
It happened with Darkness Falls in DAOC as well. It lasted a few days, then the novelty ran out, and people started splitting their time evenly between darkness falls and open RvR, exactly like people split their time evenly between PvE dungeons and open RvR until yesterday in Warhammer Online.
Do you think that Mythic should not implement ANY alternative to open RvR to keep the game fun? That's pretty hilarious. Variety of content is the only thing that can make a game live longer, and Mythic just added more variety. Give it a few days for it to settle down and for the nerdrage to slow down, and RvR will repopulate. I haven't seen ANY game in which the old content hasn't been neglected for a few days after the release of a new expansion, whatever kind of new content is added.
Oh, and by the way, the king has been captured multiple times already on warhammer online, much before the implementation of LOTD. It even was on the news in the main page. You might want to keep track of things a little better before you accuse people of being badly informed.
The free day was ruined by maintenance? really? I've been online since late night and there was no maintenance until then. So how did the "free day" been ruined by maintenance? Sorry if the few that were still on grinding their rear out had lost less than an hour of farming. It happens. That hardly "ruins" the free day.
Nice, though, to see that trolls call other trolls to help them since they lack arguments.
Lol i just read your response to that HATER. A bunch of us are checking out your site to see what it's about.
ReplyDeleteHonestly you realy should ignore the insults of that jerk and just read the facts in it. The game actually is not playable 24/7 because it is soley based on people being around for SC'S, BO, Keeps, Forts, and CIty Sieges. What you have is alot of ORvE not ORVR. Why? There is no way you can make a game that relies on who is online when to play it. ANd the PvE and crafting are weak at best. Sorry but you are quite wrong and seriously should take a good look at this Epic Failure of a game. After many months of playing, people left and are leaving. It is never about hatred Abriel, it is about fun. All one needs to do is go online and look at the forums to see the long long list of bugs incluiding lag, crashes and the inability to use the graphics even on a great computer to play. Wake up. This game can never be saved. If I am wrong I will eat my shirt.

You can start seasoning your shirt, because the game doesn't really need "saving".
ReplyDeleteCrafting is functional. Doesn't really need much more than this. A slightly more complex minigame for crafting doesn't make for a more fun game overall (Remember Vanguard? It had awesome crafting, the game sucked anyway). PvE weak? I wouldn't say so. Lost vale is quite great, and LOTD is one of the best PvE Experiences i've seen in a MMO since Final Fantasy XI.
And if you think warhammer is the only MMO that relies on population, then you're kidding yourself. EVERY MMO out there relies on populationm Even PvE MMOs(I organized raids for months on AoC, i know that even too well). It's an inherent problem of MMORPGs and there's little to be done about that.
Luckily warhammer has still more than enough to be fun, and with the new content and the people coming back to check it, it can only get better.
If there's one thing to gripe about the free day, is that the tomb of the vulture lord wasn't open, but oh well. It's open today, luckily.
I don't have a "top notch" PC (dual core 2,4 ghx, geforce 9800 gtx and 3 gigs of ram, more or less average), and I have no real performance problems unless there are 200 people around me, and I challenge you to name a MMO that performs much better with that many people on.
YOU SAID:
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, the king has been captured multiple times already on warhammer online, much before the implementation of LOTD. It even was on the news in the main page. You might want to keep track of things a little better before you accuse people of being badly informed.
I SAID:
FACTIONS THAT NEVER COULD MAKE IT TO THE MAIN CITY HAVE BECAUSE OF LOTD. I NEVER SAID THE KING NEVER GOT KILLED.
AND THE KING HAS BEEN KILLED TWO TIMES IN NORTH AMERICA ON DARK CRAG.
DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW TO FUCKEN READ?
THE SERVER MAINTENACE RUINED THE FREE DAY - GO LOOK ON THEIR SITE - IT WAS CLOSED FOR MAINTENACE.
WOW YOUR SO FULL OF YOURSELF YOU DONT EVEN READ PROPERLY
I am so happy you keep answering me and us TROLLS. It shows how fucken shallow you are and how easy it is to piss you off lmao. You must be correct and you must be right and we all must ne retarded or insane or haters of War. Only YOU are correct oh wise one. Ha haa - keep answering man, I serioulsy think its funny that you waste your time answering strangers who are writng here to piss you off simply because - well your an idiot.
Oh please, continue giving me more examples to show the average level of the warhammer-hater. You think you're pissing me off? I'm having quite a chuckle while responding to your feeble attempts to misinformation.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, some players got a chance to experience content that they never had a chance to! Terrible! Gamebreaking! Just lol. So what?
As I said it's completely normal that new content draws people away from the old for a few days while it's novelty. It's endemic to any kind of game (not only MMO) and lasts just a few days. So what?
You know, the realm that has access to LOTD still has the option to defend if they want. If they chose not to, it's their problem. It's called priorities, everyone choses his. In a few days more and more people will chose to defend over LOTD. The introduction of ANY kind of new content would have exactly the same effect. Should mythic not introduce any new content so that people won't rush to it in the first days it's available? Please...
And yeah, I noticed it was closed for maintenance. For a whole FIFTYFIVE minutes in the early morning.
That must have for sure "ruined your whole free day".
Just lol. Please make me giggle more.
In the spirit of human kindness I must apologise for these idiots directly attacking you as a person. Although I do think quite differently about the game then you do and have close ties with Rhuin, the largest guild in Warhammer, and other large guilds even on Destri such as Dominus Letum - I have to say that at the end of the day what matters most is that the individual playing is having fun.
ReplyDeleteIf the subscriber likes it - good. The loss of 700 000 or so subscribers, the closing of 67 servers about and now the talk of more mergers because the Oceanic servers are dead and their is an exodus of guilds and playsers who either quit or reroll on Dark Crag (like the guild South of Heaven) says something about Warhammer.
Nonetheless Abriel, we all have different perspectives and we can not prove one way or another our opinions because we all have different likes and needs when gaming.
There are only facts in numbers and Marc Jacobs has now left. Speculation is not evidence but with the number of players either rerolling to the largets 4 servers or quitting, we can and must agree on this as it is the truth.
Again I am sorry for the ugly attack about you. But the game is not doing very well and has nose dived again since 1.2.1
Even this being said what matters is that the person paying likes it. As it stands we can only see a trend over the past mopnths since release of a decreasing population and loss of Mythic's main man Mark.
Best Regards and excuse the aformentioned garbage. You should delete it. Even if you like to be write and I like to be right - well it is pointless to be rude and defensive about opinions. You like Lotd - many of us don't. Conclusion? I say none as gaming is a pesronal choice.

Nice to see someone able to express concepts with a bit of civility.
ReplyDeleteThe game's numbers have, though, been stable for several months for now, and there are absolutely no signs of further decreases. While it's sad that the game doesn't have severall millions subscribers (as it deserves), 300k are more than enough to make it one of the most successful MMOs in the market, and more than enough for the players to have fun in it. I didn't see, on Volkmar, a real slow day since... january? Probably longer than that.
In the corporate world people leave and join on a daily basis, it's notthing new, and it happens both in times iof crisis and in times of health. It'll continue like that in the future.
The important thing is that competent people continue to stay at the helm, and Rob, Ray and Greg definitely demonstrated to be competent people over the years, expecially in the storytelling department regarding Bioware, and them teaming up can only be a good thing for the game.
I for one would like to see them teaming up MORE than they seem to be doing. While Bioware's experience with storytelling would definitely benefit Warhammer Online, Mythic experience with MMORPG mechanics and RvR would most definitely benefit the upcoming KOTOR MMO. I seriously hope that they'll share their resources to make both games the best that they can be.
None-the-less. This thread is about Land of the Dead, and I'm sorry for the ones that disagree, but in my opinion it's one of the best free additions I've ever seen to a MMORPG, with almost zero recycled assets and fun and varied gameplay. It can only bode well for the future of the game.
